What We Build

Our Footpath Replacement Services In Dublin

Every home and every site is different. We build five types of footpath replacement that suit property, location and use, plus repair work and council-spec public sector contracts.

Concrete Footpath Replacement

The most common footpath material, durable and low-maintenance. Suits residential drives, garden paths and council work. Typically €60 to €95 per m² installed.

Tarmac Footpath Replacement

The most affordable option, ideal for longer runs, council paths and where function comes before finish. Typically €50 to €80 per m².

Block Paving Installation

A finished look in a range of colours, patterns and edging options. Popular for front paths, driveways and commercial entrances. Typically €65 to €120 per m².

Flagstone & Natural Stone

Used for heritage settings, premium residential paths and feature areas. From €100 per m² depending on stone type and finish.

Council & Public Sector Footpaths

DMURS-compliant footpath work to local authority specifications. Tactile paving at pedestrian crossings, accessibility and tendered contracts handled in full.

Footpath Repair & Trip Hazards

Localised repair for small cracks, lifted slabs and trip hazards. Usually €200 to €600 for limited damage, before a full replacement is needed.

Our 4-Step Footpath Replacement Process

From first call to final reinstatement, every job follows the same sequence, whether it’s a garden path or a council-standard footpath.

Step 1 — Site Assessment & Written Quote

We visit the site, measure the area, check the existing sub-base and identify any drainage or root issues. You get an itemised written quote covering removal, sub-base, materials, surface, edging and reinstatement, VAT shown at 13.5%.

Step 2 — Removal & Sub-Base Preparation

The old footpath is broken out and removed. We excavate to the correct depth, lay and compact a stone sub-base, and deal with any drainage or root issues.

Step 3 — New Surface Installation

The new surface, concrete, tarmac, block paving or flagstone, is laid to the agreed specification, with proper falls for water run-off and edging or kerbing as required.

Step 4 — Finishing & Reinstatement

Adjacent areas, kerbs, grass, gates and driveways, are made good, the site is cleaned and waste removed. Public sector jobs are signed off against specification.

REGULATIONS & PUBLIC SECTOR EXPERIENCE

Council-Standard Footpath Work in Dublin

Footpath work on public roads and council-controlled areas follows strict specifications under the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS). As civil engineering contractors in Dublin with a public sector track record, we know these standards and apply them to every footpath job, residential or commercial.

Council & Public Sector Standards We Work To

  • DMURS material depth and sub-base specifications
  • Kerb standards and footpath widening to council detail
  • Tactile paving at pedestrian crossings for accessibility
  • Drainage falls, gully connections and surface water management
  • Road opening licence and temporary traffic management
  • Tender compliance and sign-off against local authority standards

Verified Public Sector Clients

  • Dublin City Council
  • Fingal County Council
  • Louth County Council
  • Dublin Port Company
  • DDDA (Dublin Docklands Development Authority)
  • ESB Ireland

Why this matters for private clients too: A contractor who works to council standards every day applies the same level of compliance and finish to residential and commercial jobs. The sub-base, drainage and finishing detail you get on a private driveway is the same standard a council inspector would sign off.

Benefits Of A Proper Footpath Replacement

A footpath replacement done properly does more than tidy up the front of the property. It removes safety hazards, restores kerb appeal, and prevents the much bigger costs that come from leaving sub-base failure unaddressed.

Why Choose Us For Footpath Replacement In Dublin?

Clar-Con has 17+ years of construction experience and two things most residential paving contractors lack: genuine council-standard delivery and full civil engineering competence. Big job or small, you get a proper site investigation, structural engineering, honest itemised quotes and a written contract before a single block is lifted.

We’re clear on cost and planning from the start. You get a straight answer on whether repair or replacement is right, then delivery to a programme, on the prices in the quote, with a team that finishes what it starts.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does Footpath Replacement Cost In Dublin?

For a standard residential footpath, expect €60 to €120 per square metre depending on the material and ground conditions. A typical 20 to 30 m² path comes in around €1,500 to €3,500 all-in. Tarmac sits at the lower end, block paving at the higher end. See our footpath replacement cost guide for the full per-material breakdown.

Public footpaths on council-controlled roads are maintained by the local authority: Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council or South Dublin County Council depending on the area. Damaged public footpaths are reported through their road maintenance service request system. Private contractors like Clar-Con carry out footpath replacement on council contracts and on private property.

A standard residential footpath of 20 to 30 m² is usually completed in one to three days. Larger jobs, commercial sites or work requiring drainage alterations take longer. We give a realistic timeline as part of the written quote.

Yes. We work in all standard footpath materials, including concrete, tarmac, block paving and flagstone, and we advise on which suits your job, location and budget.

For council and commercial work that needs them, yes. We organise road opening licences, temporary traffic management and any council coordination required. These costs are shown clearly in the quote.

For small cracks or a single lifted slab, localised repair is often enough and usually costs €200 to €600. Full replacement is the right call when the sub-base has failed, there is widespread cracking, or the path has become a genuine trip hazard. We give an honest assessment of which makes sense for your job.

For private residential clients we work on private property only. The footpath outside your boundary wall is a public footpath maintained by the council. We do carry out work on public footpaths under council contracts.
